Faville Grove Intern 2007

Graduated University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2008

Current position: Director of Communications, Madison Audubon Society (Madison, WI)

Favorite memory of the program: The story David and Roger told about the tight connection between the eastern white fringed orchid and its sole pollinator, the sphinx moth, blew my mind. We spent the rest of that morning hand-pollinating that flower, which is gorgeous in its own right, but made even more special by knowing a bit more about its natural history.

Impact of the program on your academic and/or career path: The orchid experience truly changed the trajectory of my life, from being a person who appreciates and recreates in nature (plants especially) to one who looks for the incredible connections between species and our impact on those connections. My career was shaped by this internship and that day in particular.

How you used what you learned in the internship in future employment:  The hands-on, weed-pulling, plant-ID component of the internship: no. The lessons and memories of the internship: every day.
